Toronto—”Seventy years may represent two full generations, but we must never let the passage of time dull the memory of the tremendous contribution of Canadian forces to the ultimate victory over the forces of totalitarian evil in the Second World War,” said Congress national president Mark Freiman. “On this seventieth anniversary of the War’s beginning, we pay special tribute to the World War Two veterans still among us and to the ultimate sacrifice of their comrades who did not return home. With their allies from many nations, Canadians responded brilliantly to the challenge posed to civilization by the Axis rĂ©gime and its collaborators. This includes a large contingent of Canadian Jews who volunteered in numbers all out of proportion to the size of the community.”
Said Congress CEO Bernie M. Farber, “Although on this particular anniversary we recognize the heroism and sacrifice of our World War Two veterans and those who fell we must also acknowledge the bravery and commitment of today’s Canadian Forces both at home and overseas and we pray for their safety and well-being as well.” This past Sunday, Mr. Farber delivered the keynote address at the Wingate Branch of the Royal Canadian Legion’s memorial service at Mt. Sinai cemetery.
