Release Number 28

OTTAWA — On the eve of a mission to Israel of the Canadian Jewish Congress (CJC), Moshe Ronen, CJC President, wrote to Jacob Katz, Mayor of Metullah and the Metullah Regional Council to express the solidarity of the Jewish Community of Canada with residents of Northern Israel in the face of yesterday’s terrorist rocket attacks.

“Canada enjoys a special bond with Northern Israel and we are all too aware of the tremendous threats to the security of innocent civilians in your region. Your pain and anxiety are ours as well. Today, we stand together with you as one as you confront this menace to your well-being. Next week, in solidarity with you, the Canadian Jewish Congress National Executive has decided to visit with you in person in Metullah and to tour the North. We look forward to meeting you at that time and pray that in the future your region and all of Israel will know only peace.”

Rocket attacks on Northern Israel have killed at least one person and have injured several others. Thousands have been forced to seek safety in bomb shelters.

The National Executive Committee of the CJC is holding its next meeting in Israel starting May 8 and has decided to visit Metullah and the Canada Centre there on May 14 as part of its itinerary.
